The Types of Water in Water Damage

Be weary of what kind of water damage you have.

Water is classified in different categories when it comes to water damage. These categories describe the property of the water and to what severity the water can be harmful to properties and people's health. The three categories are as stated below; 

  • Category 1 Water - Water that can be referred to as "clean" water and does not pose any threat to human health.
  • Category 2 Water - Also known as "grey" water, this water is known to carry a significant portion a harmful chemicals or bacteria and can cause health hazards and discomfort when consumed.
  • Category 3 Water - Also known as "black" water, this type of water is extremely unsanitary and can contain a variety of unsanitary  agents, chemicals and fungi for example water that has been exposed to raw sewage and consumption of this type of water should be avoided at all costs.
